MELLOTT — Walter H. Fretz, 69, of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and a Mellott native, died suddenly in his home. He was a frequent visitor to the Mellott area and was present at the Richland Township alumni banquet on May 6. He was a 50-year alumnus of the school. Mr. Fretz was a resident of the Mellott area until he left for California in the early 1930's. He owned and operated a shoe repair shop in Thousand Oaks until his retirement. He was a member of the Mellott United Church of Christ. A son of Henry and Lula Fry Fretz, he was born on Oct. 15, 1897. He was married in 1936 to Mary Knight who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Judith Kellogue of Los Angeles; two brothers, Howard Fretz of Danville, Ind., and Charles Fretz of Los Angeles, and two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Howard and Mrs. Alma Linville, both of near Mellott.
